The perfect antidote to life in the city, this quieter and restorative form of yoga is said to have strong therapeutic benefits. This class is done in our warm yoga studio at a temperature of 30-32 degrees to allow greater opening of the muscles and joints. Suitable for ALL LEVELS.

Yin Yoga involves variations of seated and supine (lying down) poses typically held for 3 to 5 minutes. Our aim is to access other tissues such as fascia, connective tissue and ligaments rather than the muscles which are often the main focus of other forms of yoga and exercise. Yin Yoga is designed to increase flexibility, strengthen and bring an easier movement to the joints and, critically, to promote stronger energy flows in the body.

Yin is a perfect complement to more active and flowing styles of yoga (which would be called ‘Yang’ styles). The terms ‘ying’ and ‘yang’ come from the Chinese tradition, and we call energy flow ‘chi’ – this corresponds to ‘prana’ in the hatha yoga tradition.

In our studio, we use hand positions ('mudras’) to deepen the positive benefits of this yoga style.
