Traditional flow using breath and movement.

Ashtanga is a dynamic and vigorous style of yoga. It offers a series of poses, each held for only five breaths and punctuated by a half sun salutation to keep up the pace.

Ashtanga Yoga was created by Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India in the mid 20th Century. Ashtanga teachers lead students through the same sequence of postures that start with sun salutations before moving on to standing postures, seated postures, the finishing sequence and finally relaxation. Some treat Ashtanga as a spiritual practice while for others it is more physical. Whatever your reason is for practicing it is a great opportunity to release the mind from every day distractions.

Most types of Vinyasa yoga have their roots in Ashtanga.

Suitable for all levels but may be a bit more challenging for beginners.

If you are pregnant, or less than 7 weeks post-natal, we ask that you do not attend our general yoga classes unless specified that it is suitable. It is generally advised that during the first trimester you do not attend any classes. If you do want to practice we strongly recommend you seek the advice of your GP. If you are more than 14 weeks into your pregnancy you are welcome to join one of our specialist pregnancy classes or classes that say they are suitable for pregnant women. Speak to reception to discuss your options.
